OPSC has announced a total of 436 backlog vacancies. Of these, 144 vacancies are reserved for women.

OPSC Veterinary Assistant Surgeon Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must satisfy the prescribed age, educational qualification, registration, and other eligibility requirements before submitting the application.
Educational Qualification
A candidate must possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.), or an equivalent degree from a recognized university, college, or institution in India or abroad.
- Candidates possessing a degree from a foreign university must have the required conversion certificates recognized by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).
- Candidates must possess a valid Registration Certificate under the Odisha Veterinary Practitioners Act, 1970.
The required qualification must be possessed by the closing date for submission of the online application.
OPSC VAS Age Limit 2026
As of 1 January 2026, candidates must:
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Not be more than 47 years old.
- Have been born between 2 January 1979 and 1 January 2005, both dates inclusive.
Persons with Disabilities belonging to SEBC, SC, or ST categories who have a permanent disability of 40% or more are eligible for an additional 10 years of age relaxation over and above 47 years.
Where a candidate is eligible for relaxation under more than one category, only the relaxation considered most beneficial to the candidate will apply.
OPSC Veterinary Assistant Surgeon Salary
Candidates selected for the post will be appointed in the Odisha Veterinary Service, Group A (Junior Branch-II) under the Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Department.
The post carries a salary of:
₹56,100 per month at Level 12, Cell 1 of the Pay Matrix
Selected candidates will also be entitled to applicable allowances as sanctioned by the Government of Odisha from time to time.
